La Grande Motte - Solingen
The MJLC in the strongest possible terms condemns the recent arson attack using a vehicle loaded with a propane gas tank on the Beth Yaacov synagogue in La Grande Motte in the early hours of Saturday morning. This act of violent terrorism only serves to increase tension and incite distrust between our communities harming both Muslims and Jews in the process. We appreciate the robust response from French institutions and wish the injured police officer a speedy and full recovery.
We also condemn in the strongest terms the senseless stabbing attack which took place in Solingen, Germany. We concur fully with the statement issued by our valued member Mr. El Yazidi Chairman of the Zentralrat der Muslime in Deutschland “We are stunned and speechless. It is unclear how a person can be capable of such an act. We hope that the perpetrator will be caught quickly and brought to justice with all the rigour of the law. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”
We remind everyone that Jews and Muslims in Europe not only live peacefully side by side but also work together for the common good and social cohesion. As Imams and Rabbis, we will not be deterred from this path by hatred and violence.
