We are pleased to share an article translated from Italian from our partners at COREIS (Islamic Religious Community of Italy) on the excellent outreach conducted in cooperation with Jewish communities from across Italy. The original article can be found at this link.
Yesterday, 15 September, delegations of the Italian COREIS brought a greeting (a summary of which follows) to the synagogues and Jewish communities of Italy on the occasion of the Jewish Culture Day 2024, which this year has as its theme ‘The Family’.
‘We bring greetings today to the synagogues of Italy as brothers in the great family of Abraham, uniting Jews, Christians and Muslims in faith in the One God. For us Muslims, a reflection of this oneness is manifested in the unity of Prophethood as a single family, both historical and spiritual, of all the prophets, from Adam to Muhammad, passing through Isaac, Ismail, and Moses and Aaron (peace be upon them), prophets who are ‘brothers from different mothers, but their religion is unique' as stated by the Prophet Muhammad (on him the Peace and Blessing of God), whose birth anniversary all Muslims around the world are celebrating these days, Mawlid al-Nabi, praying on his family, who are descended from Abraham.
Our solidarity goes out to all families torn apart and destroyed by war and to the victims of any conflict, with special reference also to the families of the hostages and abductees following the attack on 7 October 2023.
In these times of great crisis, together in our families we cultivate hope for the new generations: young Jewish and Muslim women taking part in the MJLC (Muslim-Jewish Leadership Council) Ambassadors Programme have visited Italy and our mosque in Milan as part of the MJLC Ambassadors Programme. Supported by COREIS, this European project foresees interfaith initiatives of active citizenship and social cohesion between Milan, Vienna, Sarajevo and Lisbon for young Jews and Muslims'.
