An important meeting took place between the MJLC, MJLC Ambassadors, representation of the Archbishop of Vienna and MEP Mandl. In the meeting, MJLC Board Member Imam Baghajati, presented the MJLC’s history of Muslim Jewish cooperation in Europe from very beginning, and the importance of the MJLC having a close relationship with policy makers, especially in the EU and in EU Parliament.
The conversation focussed on anti-discrimination, combatting anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. MEP Mandl was particularly impressed by direct cooperation between Muslims and Jews in Austria and across Europe, and also by the Ambassadors Programme that was presented by MJLC Vienna Ambassador Hind Hafuda. All participants also noted an awareness of the current atmosphere of tension in Europe and emphasised the importance of continued cooperation and shared cohesion between Muslim and Jewish communities in Europe, noting that the MJLC is a powerful and hopeful example of what is possible.
Our thanks to MEP Mandl and the Archbishopric of Vienna for participating in this important discussion with us. We look forward to further cooperation in ensuring the continued protection of the rights of religious communities all across Europe.
