The MJLC condemns the unacceptable violence which occurred last Thursday night in Amsterdam. The violent attacks on Jews are the latest in a series of atrocious example of increasing political violence targeting Jews and Muslims in the streets of Europe which can not be condoned.
Such physical violence cannot be justified by hate speech even against perpetrators.
While we fully support the fundamental democratic right to peaceful protest, violence in the streets is antithetical to our faiths and democratic values no matter who is targeted. We call on our communities to refrain from any violence regardless of circumstances and to voice political concerns in a peaceful manner.
These sobering instances of violence are a reminder that the MJLC’s work is more important than ever. We will continue to work together to ensure the safety and inclusion of our communities across Europe.
