MJLC Condemns Mosque Arson in Peacehaven

The Muslim-Jewish Leadership Council (MJLC) strongly condemns the cowardly and despicable arson attack on a mosque in Peacehaven, UK, which took place last night. This deliberate act of violence against a sacred place of worship is not only an attack on the Muslim community, but also an assault on the values of peace, coexistence, and religious freedom that underpin our society.

This horrifying incident comes just two days after an attack on a synagogue near Manchester, further highlighting a deeply disturbing trend of rising hate crimes targeting both Muslim and Jewish communities. These acts of hatred—whether motivated by Islamophobia, antisemitism, or any other form of bigotry—are unacceptable and must be unequivocally denounced by all members of society.

We are deeply grateful that no lives were lost and that no one was physically harmed in this most recent attack. However, we recognize the emotional trauma and fear such acts inflict on entire communities. No one should ever feel unsafe while gathering in prayer or attending their place of worship.

The MJLC stands in full solidarity with the affected communities and calls upon the authorities to urgently investigate this crime, bring those responsible to justice, and ensure that all places of worship are protected from such hateful violence. We also urge political leaders, media figures, and community voices to speak out clearly and consistently against all forms of religious hatred, wherever and whenever they occur.

At this moment, our prayers are with the congregation in Peacehaven, and with all those feeling vulnerable or targeted due to their faith. We reaffirm our commitment to building bridges between communities and fostering a society in which every person—regardless of religion or background—can live in peace, dignity, and security.
