Chief Rabbi Jair Melchior

Chief Rabbi Jair Melchior was born in Oslo, Norway, in 1982 and raised in Israel. After receiving his rabbinic ordination he moved to Copenhagen, where he serves as the Chief Rabbi of Denmark. He belongs to a family with a long rabbinic tradition: his grandfather and great-grandfather each served as Chief Rabbi of Denmark, and his father, Rabbi Michael Melchior, as Chief Rabbi of Norway.

Since the 2015 terrorist attack on the Copenhagen synagogue, he has been a prominent public voice for the security of Jewish life in Europe and works with leaders of other faiths to promote dialogue and mutual understanding.
